Salt added? Do I really need to add any salt to my freshwater tank if?

i have 2 id sharks i use fresh water salt it dosent bother them and they are over 2 feet long and are about 7 to 9 years old always have used fresh water salt in my tanks chemicals decrease the life of your fish
